My Opinion

Mr 216th Platinum, The Callisto Protocol (took roughly 35h).
I don’t really know what to say except for I was really looking forward to this game…
Sooooo, the game has excellent/stunning/incredible (you get the gist, its that good) atmosphere, visuals and sound design. BUT arguably the worst combat I think I have ever had the displeasure of playing.

Just to list off a few of the bullshit design ideas that I struggled with:

  • Story, what story?
    The game is pretty much a rollercoaster and you’re along for the ride with no stops for character development or a bit of story fleshing. Which is unfortunate, because the characters are likable and leave you wanting a little bit more. 
    Although a shout out to Josh Duhamel and Karen Fukuhara who were awesome, played there characters really well. Unfortunately they just didn’t get the chance to really show what they could do due to no storyline.

  • As mentioned above, the worst combat I have ever played.
    While the idea of holding left or right on the analog stick to dodge is interestingly simple and would make you believe it would be very responsive, BALLS!!! What a pile of BOLLOCKS.
    You cant ADS and dodge at the same time.
    If you swing and miss you’re gonna get your face smashed, if an enemy slips behind you while you are dodging an enemy if front (guess what!) you’re gonna get smashed again and if there is more than two enemies just put your controller down because (yes, you guessed it) you’re gonna get smashed from all fucking directions.
    They could have come up with something. Anything would have been better.

  • Enemies, again, what enemies?
    They could have added more enemy variants. Also add more than two fucking bosses through out the game. Like seriously, we had to fight the same boss (with one shot mechanics on most difficulties with that shitty unresponsive dodging and that bullshit combat which I stated above when there is more than one enemy) at least four times, who is just a bullet sponge each time you encounter it.

  • Also lets not talk about the inventory management…

Difficulty rating,  a 7/10, which is based off how many times I died due to my character not dodging even though im holding the dodge button in, how many times my character got hit and one shotted by an enemy who is off screen, the sheer amount of enemies the game throws at you while you can only dodge the target in front and just the camera overall. 

Fun rating, a 4/10. I honestly didn’t enjoy the game. While the game was stunning and immersive, it just didn’t (in my eyes) have the combat to back it up to keep you wanting more.

So like I said, I was looking forward to this one since I was a huge Dead Space fan and I was left wanting and disappointed. I like difficult games when they are difficult for the right reasons (Metal Gear Solid 2, Dead Space 2 and even Evil Within) not because of shitty mechanics.

I guess I may just move on and hope the next game is better…

The intro visuals are absolutely stunning.

Narrow hallways feel terrifying with the steam and 3D audio.

All hell going on outside as the alien species spreads.

Photorealistic graphics that do Josh Duhamel and Karen Fukuhara proud!

Stepping out into Callisto’s hostile planet for the first time was breath taking and nerve wrecking.

One of very few jump scares that was also predicable but atleast it looks good 😀

Seeing the scale of the area and all the lighting coming from the different sources as I stepped outta the cell for the first time.

Enjoyed the background view as I casually have a conversation.

One of  ‘hmmm’  two bosses in the game ^_-
